www.facebook.com/MediaAmeerOffice/videos/1448963395165148/ Sheikh Ali Babir to non-Muslims: they enjoy all the rights that we have, and they carry out all the duties as we do Sheikh Ali Babir’s call for the protection of Christians and the followers of other religions The Muslims’ understanding of Islam concerning the attitude towards non-Muslims (be them Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Sabians or Yezidis and all those who live with Muslims in the Muslim majority countries), is expressed in the legal principle adopted by the Islamic scholars derived from the agreement of the Prophet (peace be upon him) with the Christians of Najran. It is an established rule that ‘they enjoy all the rights that we have, and they carry out all the duties that we do.’ Narrated by Muhammad Hamidullah in his book ‘The History of Political Documents of the Covenant and the Grand Caliphate.’ Non-Muslims enjoy the same rights and carry out the same duties as Muslims do, excluding the religious specificities of each of them -Muslims are not allowed to interfere in the religious peculiarities of non-Muslims, and this also applies to non-Muslims, as they are not allowed to interfere in the religious affairs of Muslims. I have written about this subject in my book ‘Islam and Authority’ in the fourth volume entitled ‘non-Muslims in Islamic society’ (in Kurdish), and in my book ‘Contemporary Issues’ in the first chapter entitled ‘Foundations of Tolerance and Coexistence in the Holy Quran,’ (in Arabic). It is one of the renowned axioms in Islam that Muslims have the best relations and the best dealings with non-Muslims in terms of defending their lives, their belongings, their dignity, their freedoms and their rights -as they are citizens in a homeland together with Muslims. This principle has been established in the books of Shari’a that all citizens, regardless of their religious differences, enjoy the same rights and carry out the same duties, as I mentioned earlier.
